For our client, a company specialized in the design, rental and sales of offshore access solutions, we are looking for a passionate CONTROL / PLC ENGINEER to join the team on the Company’s fascinating offshore access systems on ships in the various NL (and EU/Global) ports and also in the HQ office in IJmuiden.

You are given the opportunity to bring your technical expertise to the table while working in a small hands-on team on their Bring-to-Work system. Important values in the company are: safety, respect, deliver on commitments, positive attitude and humour.

In short, you know how to monitor the safe performance of the PLC’s / controls and provide support in resolving all issues to keep the motion-compensated walkways operational at all times and support the offshore clients in their activities in wind parks (primarily).

Your locations will be in ports (read: mainly Rotterdam and IJmuiden, but also Terneuzen until Delfzijl, sometimes NW-Europe and maybe US/CN) & partly offshore, in combination with the HQ IJmuiden Office.


  • As Control Engineer you are part of the operations team;
  • Responsible for monitoring the performance of the existing rental fleet;
  • Responsible for commissioning of new systems;
  • Responsible for actively monitoring existing systems;
  • Provide support to the maintenance team and propose software changes to the lead engineer;
  • Provide technical support during trouble shooting on a vessel, in port or remotely and are thus flexible with your working hours and travelling;
  • Propose technical improvements to the development team.

Qualities / Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics / Systems & Controls / Electrical Engineering / Industrial Automation, or similar;
  • Experience working with Siemens Step 7 and TIA portal;
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience in related markets;
  • You are eager to learn about the Offshore Access System market;
  • You like travelling (note: to ports mainly within the Netherlands /Europe, occasionally CN/US, incl. 5% offshore);
  • The person we seek is outgoing, entrepreneurial and should be pragmatic;
  • You also have excellent communicative and interpersonal skills and good command of the Dutch and English language.


  • PLC programming skills: PLC Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal;
  • Sensor and actuator integration;
  • Safety systems: IEC 61508, IEC 61511;
  • HMI-design: Scada: Siemens Simatic S7 HMI;
  • Communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profinet TCP/IP, RS422 and RS485, ASCII, Fiber optic, Siemens S7;
  • Fault diagnosis and Troubleshooting: PLC programming software, oscilloscopes, network analysers;
  • Be able to read and have a basic understanding of electronic (and hydraulic-mechanical) drawings;
  • Experience: preferably compensated walkways, cranes, offshore, or similar.

Company Information

The Company is a privately owned company founded in 2017 with its headquarters in IJmuiden, The Netherlands. Supported by their shareholders, they are operating their rental fleet of Bring-to-Work Offshore Access Systems. This lightweight offshore access system is able to operate from smaller vessels (read: SOV, Service Operation Vessels).

The Company is active in the Offshore Energy market focusing on the energy transition.
